Instructional Programs

Belly Dancing
This class starts at the very beginning, focusing on stretching, strengthening, isolations and basic moves which are the foundation of Middle Eastern Dance. Expect a lot of individual help and precise instruction. A great low-impact workout.

 

Hip Hop Dance
Participants will learn basic Hip Hop dance principles and apply them in a variety of dance choreographies.  Learn the skills to look good on the dance floor!

 

Latin Dance
This class will look at four favorite Latin dances: The Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Salsa, and Merengue. Level I is designed for beginning dancers and will cover the basic steps of each dance. Level II is for students who have learned the basics and are ready to take their knowledge of Latin partner dancing to the next level.

 

Beginner Rock Climbing
At the Student Recreation Facility climbing wall, participants will learn the fundamentals of climbing, including tie-in and belaying techniques. Certification may be granted upon instructor's discretion. All equipment will be provided.

 

Intermediate Rock Climbing
For climbers who are looking to better their climbing technique and skills. Practice advanced knots, advanced forms of climbing such as lead climbing and repelling, and learn better technique with drills to efficiently maximize foot and hand placement. Participants must be UIC belay certified with the ability to climb a 5.9, and current climbing is recommended to ensure endurance is satisfactory.

 

Swing Dance
This class will focus on two classic dances: Big Band Swing (the Jitterbug) and East Coast Swing. Students will be taken through a series of easy to learn steps throughout the session. Partners are welcome, but not required. Comfortable clothes and non-rubber soled shoes are preferred.

 

Tae Kwon Do
This Korean martial art is a combination of combat technique, self-defense and sport. Training generally includes a system of blocks, punches, and open-handed strikes and may also include various take-downs or sweeps, throws, and joint locks, though it generally does not emphasize grappling.

 

Tennis
Grab your racquet! Learn to play tennis in a friendly, social setting. Enjoy twelve one hour sessions of either group lessons or group play intsturcted by an experience, certified tennis projessional. No participants under 17 years old will be admitted.

Playing Group: Must be proficient in all strokes and able to run (intermediate to advanced players only).

Advanced Beginner Lessons: Some prior tennis experience and familiarity with all stokes .

Beginner Lessons: little to no prior tennis experience.

Wedding Dance
Sick of standing on the sidelines at every wedding you attend? Whether you are peparing for your own wedding or just want to brush up your dancing skills, this class will get you in good form to dance to a variety of music! Partners are welcome but not required.
