Human Performance Lab

The Human Performance Laboratory is a testing facility open to faculty, staff and students of the University of Illinois at Chicago. The lab is also open to the general public for testing. All Testing is available on a fee for service basis.

To make an appointment call 312-413-5266 or 312-996-7813. We are located at Suite 148 in the Student Recreation Facility, that's just behind the grand staircase on the first floor.

 

 


 

Body Composition

  1. Skinfolds - a six site (men) or five site (women) skinfold test that assesses body composition (percentage body fat, lean body mass, ideal weight, and ideal percentage fat). A computer printout is given of all the results.

  2. Hydrostatic Weight - The most accurate assessment of body composition utilizing underwater weighing as the method of determining body fat.
    Students: $30.00

Flexibility Test and Routine

Sit and reach is used to determine flexibility. Illustrations are provided.

General Fitness Assessment

General assessment including body composition, flexibility, submax bike, strength and abdominal endurance.

Maximal Oxygen Consumption (Treadmill or Bike)

Direct oxygen uptake utilizing a metabolic cart. This test requires medical referral from your physician.

Students: $65.00
Faculty/Staff/Alumni: $200.00
General Public: $250.00

 

Lactate Testing

This is for athletes who want to be more specific with anaerobic threshold training. Resting blood lactate is measured and blood lactate is measured throughout the test to find your lactic acid threshold.

Resting Metabolic Rate

Determines your body's resting caloric expenditure.

Strength Tests

Four standard strength tests are used to assess muscular endurance and stregnth in the upper and lower body. Percentiles are tabulated to compare your results with others of your age and sex. This provides and excellent method for prescribing a strength program.

  1. Grip Strenggth - assesses forarm and grip strength
  2. Leg Press (one rep max) - tests leg strength
  3. Pushup Test - determines muscular endurance of the upper body
  4. Situp Test - determines abdominal endurance

Submaximal Bike Test and Exercise Prescription

Includes a submaximal YMCA Bike Test with monitored heart rate and blood pressure. An exercise prescription is given based on the fitness test and includes three phases:

  1. Warm Up (stretching and abdominals)
  2. Aerobic Phase (with monitored heart rate and blood pressure)
  3. Cool down

Workout Evaluation and Consultation

Sit down with a trained professonal who will go over your current workout plan and assess efficiency and direction toward your goals and needs.
